Kill ‘Em With Sluttiness and Kindness. Surviving Vs Thriving.

I had an interaction with someone on Reddit that sparked this blog post. I wanted to share it here because it shows how kindness and sluttiness can prevail if someone is just open-minded enough to see things from a different perspective.

it is a win in my book (and in his, IMO) and I’ll take those as often as they come and also offer them to others who I believe earn them on the basis of what it means to me to be a wise and mature adult.

I enjoy the cool, rare times I am able to show someone that everyone is just trying to live the best way they know how out here. Whether that living be by getting high, being promiscuous, whatever, really. Everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they have been given and the experiences and traumas they have survived. I truly believe that. It’s human nature to attempt to survive and then, after that is accomplished, to thrive.

Just to survive, some people need their vices or it doesn’t appear it’s a life worth living to them. Truly. If they were raised in an abusive home or a victim of severe trauma or whatever the case may be, they don’t have the mental health and strength and tools to keep themselves in the “ready to thrive” zone. They are stuck in “trying to just SURVIVE” whether it appears that’s actually where they are at or not. That’s how it feels, at all times. You are constantly under such immense stress that, at a certain point, if you can’t get past that stage, you find substances or sex or whatever that finally gives you a little fucking PEACE... a break from just trying to survive when those around you are beginning to thrive. You don’t really understand the unfairness of life just yet. I didn’t anyway. And, it’s even more difficult being severely judged by “the thriving” for your “barely surviving-ness.”

Here’s one of those times of being judged that I was able to achieve understanding from the other party. I applaud the other person for 1) messaging me after his initial comments to me seemed to be of someone very close-minded and unwilling to waiver and 2) being able to refrain from “being right” when the odds were in his favor to be as such with little to no repercussions.

This was in a subreddit that I had already been downvoted into oblivion for a story I posted about fucking Jesus Christ for the experience (check out my last blog post about it, linked at the bottom of this page). No one in the comments were in favor of my post. He was just 1 negative comment of a few. But, his comment stood out to me. It stood out to me because it was a little “much” as you’ll see when I post the screenshots. In my opinion, he was much too harsh given the post and what happened. But, he is entitled to his own opinion. I can respect it but I don’t have to agree. I actually disagree very, very much.

It was slightly hard for me to refrain from being hurtful back to him or to name-call. I did refrain though and I tried to just be matter of fact and to get him to arrive at the conclusion that he is being hypocritical and judgmental without me telling him that, which never ends up as intended anyways. If I were to call him the obvious names of what I believed he was being, he would’ve likely been on the defense. Positive change and understanding have no place in those conditions.

Here’s the interaction we had from beginning to end

with usernames removed for privacy. Please don’t try to find this person or this post if you are feeling inclined to do so just to be rude or mean. Personally, I think he is actually cool and just made a mistake like everyone else does in this world. He is cool because, even though he made that mistake, he was still willing to hear my side and change his stance if needed.

That’s the best I can hope for in anyone that judges me or people like me. Because, judgment is a part of life. It can, unfortunately, be a big part of some lives. I try to avoid it personally but, like everyone else, I’ve judged others in similar ways to this one. I’m sure you have as well, reader, if you really sat and thought about it. That’s ok so long as you do what the other Redditor did here and remain open to other ways of thinking and believing.

The comments under my post. He is red.

Our private messages after he DMed me. He is gray.
